5 Summer Smoothie Recipes for All the Family
Smoothies are a great drink during the summer because they not only taste amazing, but they are actually good for you! They’re so easy to make and require very little effort. We’ve gathered a few of our favourite summer smoothie recipes for you here - enjoy!
The youthful energy boost
It’s no secret that kids have a lot more energy than us adults. But even they need an energy boost from time to time. If your little ones are experiencing a bit of a summer slump, try this smoothie for a natural uplift - much better than fizzy drinks!
- 1 peeled and chopped mango
- 1 banana 200ml of orange juice
- 200g of yoghurt (vanilla works best but go for the kids favourite for extra flavour)
Great for the skin
During the summer, our skin goes through a lot. Did you know that smoothies can help defend against heat and sun damage? This smoothie combines properties of natural fats and antioxidants to keep your skin healthy and moisturised.
- 1 avocado
- 1 banana
- 2 cups of raspberries
- Serve over ice
3 of your 5 a day
We all try to get our 5-a-day but let’s face it, there are some days where it can be difficult, especially when trying to persuade your little ones to finish their greens.. That’s where smoothies come in really handy. They can blend multiple fruits and veg into one drink, making it quicker and easier to get your essential nutrients. Don’t be put off by the kale or spinach in this one, the fruit overpowers it making it easier to be healthy.
- 1 banana
- ¼ of a pineapple (1 ½ cups)
- 2 cups kale or spinach
- ½ cup of coconut milk
The hair helper
The pool. The worst enemy of every man and woman who likes to look after their hair. Highlighted hair goes green and smooth sleek hair goes crispy and dull. Shampoo will help to combat this, but a certain mix of fruits can save you from hair disaster in a time of relaxation. The berries in this one combine to give your hair the needed antioxidants and vitamins to encourage healthy growth and help to stop the dreaded swimming pool hair.
- ½ cup strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup blackberries
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- 1 cup water (add more for desired thickness)
One for the adults
So you’ve had all of the healthy smoothies and your body's feeling great. It’s now time to treat yourself. It’s the summertime after all, it would be rude not to have a cheeky bit of alcohol once the kids have gone to bed! This fruity wonder blends together to make a very naughty after dinner drink - add more strawberries for increased thickness, or more gin for a bit more of a kick.
- ¾ cup strawberries
- Dash of lime juice
- 200ml tonic water
- Plenty of ice
- A shot (or two) of your favourite gin
