Are there too many single tank softeners?

As you might expect, we’ve got plenty of water softeners here at our purpose-built factory in Old Woking, Surrey. But what you might be surprised to see is the pile of single-tank and electric softeners we have in our car park. Fifty feet long, and twenty feet wide, it’s built out of cheap water softeners of every make and model.

For a company that is so committed to the benefits of the twin-tank, non-electric water softener that Harvey invented, we sure seem keen to collect cheap, single tank ones. So where does it come from?

The reason turns out to be fairly simple, and we believe that it stands as a testament to our commitment to quality water softeners. The softener pile has grown simply because many of our installers bring them back to the factory after fitting one of our softeners for a customer. They are the softeners that people had before they bought one of ours.

Our customers are people who’ve decided that they’ve had enough of limescale and soap scum in their homes, and that they’re going to do something about it. Some of them have looked into the options, chosen a long-lasting twin-tank softener like ours, and made their purchase. Others, however, have been persuaded by the claims of people selling cheaper solutions: often these will be complicated single-tank systems, that need an electric timer to work around the fact that they can’t soften your water and regenerate at the same time.

But there’s truth in the old adage: buy cheap, buy twice. The fact is that these systems are unsatisfactory. They break down, or they just don’t deliver soft water in a convenient way (here’s why). So much so that people who buy them often end up choosing to replace them with proper softeners like ours – softeners that can regenerate whenever is most efficient, and that don’t need to be plugged in to a power socket.

In fact, so many people give up on cheap softeners and buy one of ours instead, that our car park is filling up with the ones we replace! That’s why we’re proud of our pile: every softener on it is another reminder that our twin-tank, non-electric, block salt softeners are the best solution to hard water problems.
