What Is Hard Water?

Hard water is water that has a high mineral content – the ‘hardness’ of water simply refers to the relative levels of minerals in it. You may notice that your water is hard as a result of a scummy residue left behind in your bathroom or kitchen appliances, which is produced through a reaction with soaps and common household products.

Hard water hydrological cycle
Rainfall is naturally soft. Water is hardened by percolating through layers of earth and rocks before its inception and treatment to become tapwater.

There are lots of benefits to using softer water: to name just a few examples, it’s much better than hard water for your hair, skin, household appliances, and bills! You can find out more about the various benefits of softening your water on our benefits of softened water page.
