World Ocean Day 2023

The ocean and it’s temperature, chemistry, currents, and life all drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Our rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and even the oxygen in the air we breathe, are all ultimately provided and regulated by the ocean.

Culligan’s Oceansaver Accolade initiative aligns with World Oceans Day. The program recognizes corporate customers like Four Seasons Hotel Miami and Goldman Sachs for their sustainability efforts, all of which are helping contribute towards protecting the ocean. By embracing Culligan’s plastic-free water solutions, these organizations reduce their environmental footprint and extend sustainability benefits to consumers.

Plastic pollution is a major threat to marine life. Approximately 8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, breaking down into microplastics that harm marine ecosystems and pose risks to human health. Immediate action is needed to phase out single-use items and address the alarming rates of plastic ingestion by marine mammals and fish species.

World Oceans Day shines a spotlight on this critical situation and provides an opportunity for individuals and businesses to contribute to ocean preservation. By understanding the impact of our consumer habits on marine life, we can create a better future. A United Nations (UN) initiative, the concept of a ‘World Oceans Day’ was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro as a way to celebrate our world’s shared oceans and our personal connection to the sea, as well as to raise awareness about the crucial role oceans plays in our lives and the important ways people can help protect them. The 8^th June was officially confirmed as World Oceans Day by the UN General Assembly in 2008.

Softer on the environment
