Will installing a water softener affect my water rates?

Water is used in the regeneration process, so installing a water softener will increase your water use and your water rates. Our measurements also show that 17 litres of water are used in the regeneration process.

However, a Harvey water softener is a non-electric water softener which means it only regenerates when it needs to, avoiding salt and water wastage. In contrast, electric water softeners have an automatic timer where regeneration is activated whether the water softener needs to or not. We explain more about the differences here.

In the longer term, the savings from the benefits of owning a water softener will likely outweigh any increases to your water rates. With softened water you’ll use less cleaning and personal care products – so soaps, shampoos, conditioners, floor cleaners, bathrooms cleaners, washing powder, dishwasher powder will last longer.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly your soft water product savings add up. Buying less of these products also reduces packaging use too.

There are more benefits for you, your family and your home. We call them the 7 wonders of Harvey softened water. Find out more

Our water softeners help you around the home in so many ways. Softened water can prevent limescale build-up in taps, pipes and appliances. Many people think it tastes better than hard water, and it’s much softer on skin.
