What type of salt can I use?

Most Harvey water softeners use block salt which is easy to carry, store and load. HarveyArc water softeners use Mini Curve Salt BlocksDomestic models up to November 2020 (eg HV3,HV4) use traditional block salt.

The amount of salt that you need to top up your water softener will depend on the model of the softener you have, how much water your household uses and the hardness of the mains water in your area.

As a rough guide, typical traditional block salt usage is approximately 1 x 4kg block, per person in your household, per month. The new HarveyArc model uses Mini Curve Salt Blocks, with average usage of one pack per person per month (2 x 1.25kg blocks per pack, equivalent to 4.25kg.)

Once you’ve been using your water softener for a while, you’ll get a good idea of your household usage rate and how frequently you need to buy more salt

We recommend buying your salt from the Harvey salt shopYou can buy the amount that suits you, from three twin packs upwards. Some customers like to buy in bulk. One of the main considerations is the amount of space you have to store your salt.

All our salt is Grade A, food quality salt that’s compliant with BS EN973. Unlike some salt blocks, ours contain no anti-caking agents or harmful minerals that could damage your softener. We only source salt from trusted suppliers to ensure the best quality product. Our traditional salt blocks are suitable for all block salt softeners including Harvey, Kinetico, Crown, Monarch, Minimax, TwinTecDualflo

You can also confirm the compatibility of your water softener and the salt required by reading our Water Softener Salt Compatibility Chart.
